Stop Downplaying Your Success

I’ve noticed something surprising when speaking to high-achieving professionals! Many tend to minimise their accomplishments.

Why does this happen? Is it because of…

  • Imposter syndrome creeping in (it’s more common than you think!).
  • Fear of being seen as “bragging”, or an individual as opposed to a team player!
  • Or maybe it’s simply a lack of confidence in discussing their work.

Whatever the reason, downplaying your achievements can hold you back, especially during interviews.

Here’s the truth!

  • Your achievements showcase your impact and value.
  • Hiring managers need to hear what makes you a great candidate.
  • Be proud, be specific, and don’t shy away from sharing the details.

My Advice for 2025 Job Seekers!

As you prepare for new opportunities, take time to reflect on your 2024 successes, and highlight the following:

  • The situation you faced, and task you were assigned.
  • The plan you put into place to deliver on the task.
  • The impact of your success for the business. For example, was it increased sales and profitability, or improved efficiencies and processes, thereby reducing costs or saving time?

Remember: confidence is key. Speak up, own your success, and let your achievements do the talking!

Do you find it hard to talk about your achievements? What’s worked for you? Let me know; I’d love to hear!
