Doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching
Another weekend packed with incredible sporting moments, but for me, one stood out above the rest.
At Roland Garros, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner battled it out over five gripping hours in an epic French Open final. The tennis was electric, but what left the biggest impression on me, wasn’t the rallies or the scoreline.
It was the sportsmanship.
Each player, at different points in the match, overruled the officials, not to their own advantage, but to award a point to their opponent. In a game of such fine margins, that level of integrity is rare.
And it got me thinking…
In business, do we build teams that act like this?
Who do the right thing, even when the easy thing is to say nothing.
Who protect the culture and values of the organisation.
Who understand that long-term trust matters more than short-term gain.
Culture isn’t what you say, it’s what you do, especially under pressure.
Hats off to Alcaraz and Sinner. Most believe these two players will dominate tennis in the coming years, and what we saw yesterday was two class acts and outstanding role models for the game.
